International Students

Non-US Citizens

Flight training

At TAA, we welcome international and non-US Citizens into our Flight Training Program. You will be treated with respect, courtesy, and professionalism just like all the rest of our students. However, because of your special situation, you will need to undergo a security threat assessment and be cleared through the FAA Flight Training Safety Program (FTSP). All students that meet the key points outlined below, must be enrolled in and cleared by this program.

We have helped guide many students through this process over the years, and we will be with you every step of the way.

Key points

Here are the key points to consider as you begin the process:

US Embassy

Our student should go to a US Embassy in their home country to apply for the visa.

FAA Part 141 Approved

As an international student, you are eligible to train at TAA because we are an FAA Part 141 approved school, per the US government regulations.

English Proficiency

All aviation, world-wide, is conducted in English. Therefore, “English Language Proficiency” –must be demonstrated by all students at an accepted international level.

Type of VISA

There are two types of U.S. VISAs available for international students who want to complete flight training in the United States: the M-1 Visa and F-1 Visa. (Note: the U.S. tourist visa will NOT allow you to begin or complete flight training in the United States.

M-1 VISA

The M-1 Visa for flight training is recommended for students interested in entering the United States to either take individual flight courses or a full professional pilot program. The M-1 Visa allows you to stay in the United States for up to 12 months. It can be extended if needed for training. However, this VISA does NOT allow you gain employment as a pilot either training or in a commercial capacity.

F-1 VISA

The F-1 Visa for Flight Training is recommended for students interested in a career as a professional pilot and who desire to complete a professional training program. This starts with the completion of a Private Pilot Certificate and progresses through the Instrument Rating, the Commercial Certificate with Multi Engine Rating, and finally, the Instructor Rating. This VISA also allows a student to be hired as a paid Flight Instructor with Triad Aviation Academy (pursuant to successful completion of the interview process and job offer) to build up over 1,000 hours of flight time experience, which is key to moving on into an airline position.
